My 12 year old male cat, "TOmmy" was diagnosed with feline diabetes a month ago. His blood glucose is still very unstable, he tends to stick around 430! I know his bg will never be normal, but I just don't seem to be seeing any progress. I am in constant contact with our vet, but I just worry and wonder if he is suffereing because I want to keep him around. If anyone else has had a diabetic cat, any support would be greatly appreciated.

I have a female diabetic cat. She is about 10 yrs old. I have researched this topic quite a bit. I have also researched ALOT of foods. So far I have found that canned food did not work for her. She lost ALOT of weight (she is small to begin with) and she stayed hungry ALL the time. I know the carbohydrates are supposed to be kept low, but canned food was not an option for her. So I finally found a couple of low carb cat foods. Tried 3 different kinds. Here are some links for you to look into: http://www.petco.com/product/105069/Pinnacle-Peak-Protein-Chicken-and-Ocean-Fish-Dry-Cat-Food.aspx?CoreCat=CatFlink_DryFood
This is the one she has done the best on. She got some weight on her and her coat looks good and she acts like she feels so much better.
The only negative I have with this food (she doesn't mind it though), IT STINKS! Veryyyyyy fishy!
I wish I had not mixed these next 2 together, but I did. Therefore I am not sure which one she did not do well on, or maybe it was both. I chose the cat/kitten because it was the lowest in carbohydrates.
But you can get a free sample of this one and try it.

I tried saving a few dollars by trying this last one. I am almost positive this is the one that is NOT agreeing with her. My dog was allergic to this brand of dry dog food. Of course you figure all this out AFTER-THE-FACT, but here is the link anyhow.

I am going to re-order the Innova Evo Cat/Kitten (2nd link) before I give up on this food. The proteins are high and GREAT proteins. The fats are GREAT fats and the carbs are the lowest I have found....
Read the reviews and do some research on these and maybe you will find one that works well for him.
Good luck! I know how frustrating this can be.
